A DIY love note you won't hate making
I promise they're so easy and fun you'll actually want to make them!
One thing to know about me:
I LOVE making things that are quick to make and have a big impact.
These love notes are that for sure!
Let’s make them!
Use these notes for:
Valentines
Counting down to Valentine’s Day
Love notes, thank you notes, or notes in general any time of the year
Anniversary cards
Gift tags
Anything you want! You’re the boss!
Want to watch instead of read? Do that here!
Requirements to make:
Time: an hour at the most I think, depends on how many you’re making.
Focus: some for cutting/drawing/gluing hearts, but that’s it!
Energy: coloring, cutting, and gluing take up the most time, so it depends on how you do with those things. You can modify in ways to save energy, like having paper already colored, using a punch or a machine if you have access to one to cut the hearts out, etc.
You need:
Paper (any kind! Doesn’t need to be thicker than printer paper or anything!)
Markers/crayons/highlighters/paint (anything colorful works!)
Scissors (I used kid scissors!)
3 by 5 index cards (you can buy 100 for a dollar or less!)
Glue (I like a glue stick for this but you do you!)
Warning: you will have colorful cool looking paper scraps after you make these.
I give you full permission to recycle them, even though they’re going to look so pretty and fun. I also give you full permission to use them for another project; if that’s the case, brainstorm about a project you’re going to use them on. Otherwise you’ll keep them forever with no plan to use them (I speak from experience)
Let’s make them!
First, plan on how many hearts you need.
You can make single heart cards like this, or multiple heart cards.
Look at the size of your paper, the size of the 3 by 5 cards, and roughly estimate how many papers you will need. It never hurts to do more than you think!
So you have your paper and mark making supplies ready.
Now, cover those entire pages with color.
How you do this is up to you.
You can do one color, many colors, stripes of colors, dots, scribbles, you name it.
I quite like how some turned out that had scribbles on them,
and it’s very fun to scribble.
There’s no wrong way to do this; have fun!
Get kids in on it if they’re around; my two year old scribbled on most of the sheets of paper and I love how the hearts turned out!
Flip your scribbled pages over and draw some hearts on the back.
Here’s the rough guide I used when I cut mine out; I used paper from a notebook with pages smaller than 8.5 by 11 so the sizes worked out pretty well for me; don’t use this as a template, just as an idea to jump off o
I think it’s cool to do the hearts this way because even though you’re getting a bunch from the same paper, they’ll look slightly different thanks to cutting the hearts in different directions.
Cut out the hearts.
Recycle or keep the scraps accordingly!
Glue hearts on the 3 by 5 cards.
You have many options here!
Put the heart at the top and write the note on the front.
Put the heart in the center and use the back of the card to write a note.
Put small hearts across the top and bottom and write on the front.
Put the heart centered on the bottom half and fold to make a little card.
Fill in the entire note with hearts and write on the back.
It’s up to you!
I find putting the glue on the heart and then putting it on the page works best for me.
Optional: trace around the heart
I like doing this because it really shows the hand-cut aspect of the hearts.
And I like the contrast.
But you do what you want, okay?
Last step: enjoy!
Use them for whatever you want!
I did these this way because they 3 by 5 size lends itself well to fitting into an album if you want to keep these love notes. We are planning on doing a countdown from February 1st to the 14th with a love note every day.
Do you think you’ll make these?
Anything I missed?
Let me know!
Thanks and have fun making these!
